Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation that also promotes healing and balancing on all levels (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual), and can be used safely with adults, children, and animals.
Usually performed through touch, it releases blocked energy and stress naturally and safely; it can minimize the sense of helplessness when faced with disease and/or a crisis situation, and is a valuable tool for overall well-being and enhancement.
Reiki has been used to reduce pain symptoms, anxiety, fatigue, the side effects of medication, and to encourage recovery after injury or surgery. Reiki helps people become more actively involved in their own health.
How long is a session?
A session usually lasts approximately one hour (your first visit will be 1.5 hours).
Is it like a massage?
Yes and no! Massage is muscle manipulation therapy done on a massage table. Reiki is a gentle touch (or no contact) energy balance therapy done on either a massage table or a chair (depending on the client’s comfort and physical limitations). They both are used to reduce pain symptoms, anxiety, fatigue, and to encourage recovery after injury or surgery.
What should I wear to a session?
Be comfortable! You will only be asked to remove your shoes (you may want to bring socks if your feet tend to get chilled).
What will it feel like?
Each person is different… some feel different things and some feel nothing. Often it will feel like a warm and soothing energy flowing from the hands of the practitioner into the client, promoting relaxation and a release of tension.
How often should I come for a session?
How often you receive treatment is totally between you and the practitioner. They will make recommendations after each session, dependent on a client’s particular situation.
Is Reiki recognized by the medical community?
Yes. Reiki is placed in the category of holistic medicine, along with Acupuncture and Reflexology. In some states, it is covered by various insurance companies.
Is Reiki a religious practice?
Simply, no. “While Reiki is spiritual in nature in that it provides love and compassion to the client, it is not a religion. It has no dogma and does not conflict with religious beliefs. People who are followers of all the various religions have practiced Reiki and find that it enhances their religious experience. Can I learn to do Reiki on myself and others?
Absolutely! Anyone can learn Reiki! It does not take years of practice or the ability to meditate. It is passed on from teacher to student during instructional classes and an attunement process. Once attuned, Reiki is yours for life! Join our email list to be notified of upcoming classes or express your desire to learn.
